A letter to my patients:

As many of you know, after a long illness my husband, business partner and best friend, Dr. Kelly Batey, passed away in May of 2023. It was important to me to remain dedicated to my team and patients at both River View Family Eyecare and the Oregon Vision Development Center during this difficult time and that meant delaying the time I needed for myself.

Now, thanks to my amazing and supportive team – Ari, Jonathan, Juliet, Mercedes, Michelle, Mickhaella, Sara, Taelor and Zachary and fellow doctors, Dr. Beckstead and Dr. Salazano, I can take the time away that I need in the form of a sabbatical.

The offices will continue running as normal and I fully trust that you will be in excellent hands with Dr. Salzano continuing to see pediatrics, special needs, and vision therapy patients one day per week and Dr. Beckstead taking the helm as River View’s full-time doctor as well as assisting at the Vision Development Center.

As for me, my year-long sabbatical will include behind the scenes running of the practices, personal healing and growth, humanitarian work and continued study in neuro-optometry so that I can better meet the unique needs of my patients when I return.

I appreciate your understanding and support during this time, and I look forward to returning to practice and continuing our journey together in the future.

Sincerely,
Dr. Stephanie Emmert
